What We Do Matters
Bible Text: Psalm 1 & Colossians 3:22-25 | Preacher: Pastor Ken | Series: Transformed Living
Psalm 1
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
Who is John Mark?
Acts 12:12 – Son of a wealthy Jewish woman, Mary
1 Peter 5:13 – Converted under Peter’s preaching
Colossians 4:10 – Cousin of Barnabas
Acts 13:5 and Acts 13:13 – Assistant to Barnabas and Paul, turned back without completing the mission
Acts 15:39 – Rejected by Paul because of previous action
Colossians 4:10 and Philemon 24 – Reconciled and restored with Paul, greater respect and ministry
2 Timothy 4:11 – A joy to Paul’s heart, encouraging to Paul
So John Mark once failing and running away from ministry, is restored later; he is a comfort, fellow worker and useful for ministering to Paul. He is the author of one of the four gospels contained in the cannon of the New Testament.
What We Do Matters
Revelation 3:14-17 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’
Matthew 25:16-28 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them…
Mark 12:41-44 Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”
Colossians 3:22-25 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
Psalm 1:2-3
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
