The Stewardship of the Lord’s Day

Passage: Exodus 20:8-11

Bible Text: Exodus 20:8-11 | Preacher: Pastor Steve
Celebration of His Creation
Exodus 20:8-11 Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days a week are set apart for your daily duties and regular work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any kind of work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; then he rested on the seventh day. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
Celebration of His Salvation
Deuteronomy 5:12-15 Six days shall you labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
Celebration of His Grace
Mark 2:23-27 Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. And the Pharisees said to Him, Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath? But He said to them, Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him:  how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?
Sabbath Celebrates What He Has Done For Us!
Mark 2:28 And He said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.  Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.
Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God. Anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest.
On The Lord’s Day We Declare:
Lord, YOU are first and foremost in my all life
Lord, YOU are the one that I turn to whenever I need help
Lord, YOU are the one living in the center of all my life
The Bible Teaches Us The Principle Of One
We commit to have ONE ministry focus, ONE small group involvement and we give ONE entire day to the Lord
REST ON THE LORD’S DAY
He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done
Busyness and distractions are a major threat
Psalm 127:1-3 Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is useless. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.
