Stir Up Love and Good Works
Bible Text: Hebrews 10:24 | Preacher: Pastor Ken | Series: Engage: Do All In The Name Of The Lord Jesus
Are you running to God and His people for refuge?
Calling Out The first move is always ours to make. We work with God as a team. Psalm 91:15
Pouring it Out End the silence and pour it all out to God. Psalm 62:8 & Psalm 32:3-4
Walking In Our pain-filled passionate words are our password, but we have to walk in the gate.
2 Corinthians 12:9
Isaiah 57:15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
The cities of refuge were “cities filled with people”…run to God and run to the “cities” filled with other people….(God’s people)
Matthew 16:13-18 …Then He asked them, who do you say I am? Simon Peter answered, You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Jesus replied, you are blessed, Simon son of John, because My Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
Are you letting Jesus restore you, are you investing yourself into the lives of others, following Jesus’ example as He restored and invested into you?
James 4:1-3 What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Isn’t it because there is a whole army of evil desires within you? You want what you don’t have, so you kill to get it. You long for what others have, and can’t afford it, so you start a fight to take it away from them. And yet the reason you don’t have what you want is that you don’t ask God for it. And even when you do ask you don’t get it because your whole aim is wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure (NLT).
When God asks us to deal with what is going on inside of us, our attitudes and desires…how do we respond?
Running Away from the Lord Jonah 1:1-17 …But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish, so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
What are some things people do to get away from the presence and voice of God?
What master are you serving?
The Enemy Seeks to Enslave Us by Challenging Our Moral and Ethical Values
Priorities (obedience) – Am I putting the Kingdom of God first?
Schedules (time and service) – How much time do I allow for serving God?
Possessions (resources) – Is all I have under God’s control?
Attitudes (way of thinking & feeling) – Do I love God most and others as much as myself?
Heart (passions, desires, hopes, & dreams) – Are my desires what God desires?
Control (submission) – Am I letting God be in control?
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Hebrews 2:14-15 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could He deliver those who have lived all their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. (NLT)
Are you living in the newness of life, living a resurrected life free of the fear of death and judgment?
Hebrews 10:11-25 … Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, … let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
