Re-Engage In Loving God And One Another

Passage: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Service Type:

Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 | Pastor: Pastor Steve | Series: Engage: Do All In The Name Of The Lord Jesus

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…
Love Is Not Rude
Love does not behave in an unseemly way! Love does not behave impolitely, discourteously, crudely or with impoliteness, bad manners, disrespect, ungraciousness, or with offensive comments, bad language or behavior.
Love Is Not Self-seeking
People who are self-seeking want their own way. They are selfish, self-centered, wanting only what they think is best for them. This is the polar opposite of (agape’) love!
Love Is Not Easily Angered
The word for “easily angered” could also be translated “touchy,” “irritable,” or ”overly sensitive.”

Mark 3:5-6 And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.
Unresolved Anger Is Often Responsible For Depression
Ephesians 4:26-27 Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. And do not give the devil a foothold

Anger in and of itself may not be sinful, but it gives the devil a foot in the door of our lives. When that door is cracked open, there’s no telling what will follow anger through the door.
Anger Can Destroy Human Life And Wound The Human Spirit
Proverbs 14:17 An angry person does foolish things

Proverbs 29:22 A hot tempered man commits many sins

Matthew 5:21-22a Jesus said, You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, you shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment.
Love Keeps No Record Of Wrongs
Believers must not keep record of wrongs. Some people will remember every offense against them as though it were written in a book and tallied. Those who keep record of these wrongs and personal injuries will harbor resentment(s).
Resentment Destroys Relationships!
Mark 11:25 And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you hold anything against anyone, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

Matthew 6:14-15 If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

We need to practice THE DISCIPLINE OF forgiveness
The DISCIPLINES Of Forgiveness
Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

I will not think about the incident
I will not bring the incident up and use it against you
I will not talk to others about the incident
I will not allow the incident to stand between us as an offense

Our Worship And Praise Is The Direct Result Of Our Freedom Found In Forgiveness Through Mercy, Love And Grace
Psalm 32:10-11 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; but he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him. Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Worship is released not produced in our hearts and souls!
The Lord Will Change Your Life And Cleanse Your Heart!
Psalms 51:10-12 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.

The Lord wants to create in you a new, clean and pure heart
