Bible Text: Colossians 3:12 | Preacher: Pastor Steve | Series: That They May Know…Christ
Colossians 3:12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
We Are Chosen People
John 15:16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
We Need To Choose Him
How Can Believers Be “Holy”?
The Holy Spirit is the One who helps us become holy. The Holy Spirit provides the power internally to do what God requires externally.
Holiness is a progressive goal of salvation.  Only incredible love would cause God to do for believers all that He has done
Be Holy – Be Set Apart
Mercy: Genuine sensitivity, heartfelt sympathy for the needs of others
Kindness: Acting charitably, benevolently toward others, as God has done toward us
Humility: An attitude of self-esteem that is neither puffed up with pride, nor self-depreciating
Gentleness: Humble, considerate of others, submissive to God and His Word and Will
Patience: Long-suffering, or putting up with people, events that irritate, annoy and antagonize
2 Samuel 4:4 Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel; and his nurse took him up and fled. And it happened, as she made haste to flee, that he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.
PUT ON Because Of His Love!
2 Samuel 9:4-6 Is there still no one left…I can show God’s kindness? ….So the king said to him, Where is he? And Ziba said to the king, Indeed he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo Debar
…Now when Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come to David, he fell on his face and prostrated himself. Then David said, Mephibosheth? And he answered, here is your servant!
God’s Love PUTS ON Love
2 Samuel 9:7 …So David said to him, do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.
God’s Love PUTS ON Mercy
2 Samuel 9:8 Then he bowed himself, and said, What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I…
God’s Love PUTS ON Kindness
2 Samuel 9:10-12
But Mephibosheth your master’s son shall eat bread at my table always.
As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table like one of the king’s sons.
So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table
God’s Love PUTS ON Humility
2 Samuel 9:13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table. And he was lame in both his feet…
