Overcoming by Abiding in His Word

Pastor:
Passage: Luke 4:1-13
Service Type:

Bible Text: Luke 4:1-13 | Preacher: Pastor Steve | Series: Abiding in the Lord
Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil.
John 10:10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
We are vulnerable to the attacks of Satan when we are alone, isolated from support, prayer and protection from the Lord and the Body of Christ
A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the only guarantee that we will be able to face problems and infirmities with victory and success
Hebrews 4:15-16 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.
One of the biggest deceptions by Satan is to trick us into thinking that EVERY GOOD thing we do is ALWAYS the RIGHT thing to do no matter what His word!
#1. Luke 4:3-4 And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. And the devil said to Him, if You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread. But Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
It is often the little transgressions; small sins that bring us down!
Deuteronomy 8:2-6 Remember how the LORD your God led you through the wilderness for forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would really obey his commands. Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people need more than bread for their life; real life comes by feeding on every word of the LORD…
Satan wants us to believe that our “needs” ought to ALWAYS be a priority

Knowing and obeying God’s Word is the best weapon against temptation – Ephesians 6:1-17).
Obeying the Scriptures is more than simply quoting a passage from the Bible, we need to integrate God’s Word in our lives daily and apply them as a real world situation!
#2. Luke 4:5-8 …then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, all this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours. And Jesus answered and said to him, Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.
Satan offers a way for us to seemingly AVOID pain and the fact is most of us will do almost anything to prevent pain
Satan’s goal always has been to replace the Lord God with himself as the object of our worship
#3. Luke 4:9-13 …then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, if You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. For it is written: He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you, and, In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. And Jesus answered and said to him, It has been said, You shall not tempt the LORD your God. Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.
Deuteronomy 6:16-18 Do not test the LORD your God as you did when you complained at Massah. You must diligently obey the commands of the LORD your God — all the stipulations and laws he has given you. Do what is right and good in the LORD’s sight, so all will go well with you.
KNOWING Bible verses is important but OBEYING the Bible is critical for our survival
Jesus declared over and over: IT IS WRITTEN! IT IS WRITTEN! IT IS WRITTEN!
If you want to keep all of Jesus’ commands, don’t TRY to be like Jesus, TRAIN to be like Jesus
