Marital Success According to God’s Word
Bible Text: Ephesians 5:21-33 | Pastor: Pastor Steve | Series: Marriage God’s Way | TEAMWORK
Ephesians 5:21-24 And further, submit to one another out of reverence
for Christ…For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of
the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. Therefore, just as
the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands
in everything.
TEAMWORK out of RESPECT and HONOR to Jesus Christ
SACRIFICIAL LOVE
Ephesians 5:25-28 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as
Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her that He might sanctify
and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word. He did this to
present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any
other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way,
husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a
man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself
Sanctification: to be set apart in how we live life
Righteousness: Jesus removes our spots, wrinkles and blemishes
MARRIAGE GOD’S WAY
Marriage is made up of 3 persons: Jesus, husband and wife. We are to
support each other in our spiritual growth/closeness to the Lord as Jesus
does for the church. The BIBLE teaches us that our love seeks the highest
good, gives the other the benefit of doubt, forgives and reconciles, thinks
the best of the other. Our love sacrifices and serves one another!
CARING
Ephesians 5:29-32 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes
and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are
members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. As the Scriptures say,
a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two
are united into one. This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the
way Christ and the church are one.
There are many rewards for living the right way as much as there are
penalties for living the wrong way (Romans 6:16). The WORD OF GOD
teaches us that we can OVER-RIDE our SELF-CENTEREDNESS and
become OTHER-CENTERED with the help of the Holy Spirit.
LOVE AND RESPECT
(BE KIND AND NICE TO EACH OTHER)
Ephesians 5:33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he
loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
The Word teaches the practice of mutual love and loyalty, loving marital
leadership of the husband and loving marital support of the wife, intimacy,
togetherness, kindness and respect that should describe every marriage
as this is a picture of Christ and the church.
