Lord Teach Us To Pray!

Pastor:
Passage: Luke 11:1-4
Service Type:

Bible Text: Luke 11:1-4 | Preacher: Pastor Steve | Series: Engage: Do All In The Name Of The Lord Jesus
Colossians 3:17 Do ALL in the name of the Lord Jesus!
Luke 11:1-4 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. So He said to them, when you pray, say…
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:13 For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Our Prayer Involves Praising Him!
Our Father In Heaven
Our commitment is to ALWAYS honor God’s Holy Name
Hallowed Be Your Name
God’s children, who bear His name, must be responsible to hallow (respect, revere) God in every aspect of their lives.
How Do We Praise Him?
ADORATION: praising God for who He is, His character
THANKSGIVING: praising God for what He has done
Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
We practice being in the presence of the Lord!
Our Focus in Prayer
Commitment To God’s Will!
Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven
We are to pray that people will enter the kingdom of God; Receive the HOLY SPIRIT!
Pray for God’s Will to be done in our family, friends, church, community, nation and world!
(see Romans 12:2)
Our Prayer Asks The Lord To provide For Our DAILY Needs!
Give us this day our daily bread…
As believers in Jesus we are dependent upon God!
Our pray request is that the Lord will provide what is needed.
What needs do we pray for? ALL of them!
Philippians 4:6 Don’t worry about anything but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God
Philippians 4:19 God will supply all of my needs from His riches in glory because of what Christ Jesus has done for us.
Our Prayer Asks God To Forgive Our Sins!
…and forgive us our sins
When Jesus taught us to pray, He made forgiveness the cornerstone of our relationship with Him!
To refuse to forgive others has dangerous consequences
(Matthew 6:14-15; 18:23-35)
Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
As We Pray: Receive Forgiveness!
Confess!  Proverbs 28:13 You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up. Then God will show mercy to you.
Restitution! Matthew 5:23-24 When you remember your brother has something against you, go at once to make peace with him, then come back and offer your gift to God.
Faith! 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins, and purify us from all unrighteousness
In Our Prayer: Be Forgiving! Be Gracious! Be Loving!
…for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us
Pray for ALL people…pray until God changes us, changes them or the situation, or changes the focus of our prayer
God’s answers ALWAYS come in one of three ways:
NO
YES
WAIT
Pray For Protection And Deliverance!
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one
The Greek word translated temptation (peirasmos) means enticement or test or trial. In this context, it is a request for spiritual protection from trials and temptations.
1 John 4:4 The Spirit who is in you is more powerful than the spirit who is in those who belong to the world.
Our Prayer ALWAYS Brings Honor To Jesus!
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
YOURS is the KINGDOM…POWER…GLORY
today, yesterday and tomorrow!!
