Bible Text: Exodus 12:12-14 | Preacher: Pastor Steve | Series: Engage: Do All In The Name Of The Lord Jesus
The Word From The Lord Came Through Moses
LET MY PEOPLE GO!
Passover: to pass over, skip over, to cover or protect
Egypt: sin or things that enslave us
Israel: deliverance
Pharaoh: Satan
Moses: Deliverer
Promised Land: Heaven and Hope
(Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; Luke 22:14-33; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
Exodus 12:12-14 On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn male animal in the land of Egypt. I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt, for I am the Lord! But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt. This is a day to remember. Each year, from generation to generation, you must celebrate it as a special festival to the Lord.
See Exodus 12:31-32, 51
Deliverance For Israel Was The Death Of The First Born
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
The Enemy Seeks To Enslave Us Challenging Our Moral And Ethical Values
Priorities (obedience) Exodus 11:5
Schedules (time and service) Exodus 12:2
Possessions (resources) Exodus 12:5
Attitudes (way of thinking and feeling) Exodus12:12
Hearts (passions, desires, hopes and dreams) Exodus 12:15
Control (submission) Exodus 13:1-2
The Enemy Tries To Overwhelm  Us
Souring (embitter) our soul: v14 made their lives bitter with hard labor
Breaking (abusing) our soul: v14…the Egyptians used them ruthlessly
Killing (destroying) our soul: v16…if it is a boy, kill him…
(Exodus 1:13-16; John 10:10)
Israel Was Taken Captive But We Have CHOSEN CAPTIVITY
Useless: exhausted, broken, bruised, worn out physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Worthless: do what I tell you to do and I won’t beat you BUT I do beat you. You are never going to be good enough. You will not hear words of affirmation or edification.
Hopeless: treated unfairly, with cruelty; judged without mercy; dysfunctional grace; loveless.
Powerless: anxieties; fear of rejection; abandonment; failure; criticism and judgment.
FREEDOM Starts By ALLOWING The Lord To Dramatically Change Our Priorities
Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
In [this] freedom Christ has made us free [and completely liberated us]: stand fast then, and do not be hampered and held ensnared and submit again to a yoke of slavery [which you have once put off].
Jesus REDEEMS RESTORES RENEWS US From Our Sins!
The Rejection Of The Word of God
Hebrews 3:7-15 Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness, where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works forty years…lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin…do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
Hardened hearts are the refusal to hear the Word and refusal to respond with commitment and obedience to His Word
Removing Our Sin Releases Our Freedom
Exodus 12:15 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.
Sin Is Rebellion:  it is an act of disregarding the boundaries of God’s Word (Bible) and puts us into a state of alienation and hostility with/from God.
Sin Is Unbelief:  it is hardness of heart (Mark 16:14; Rom 2:5). It means we have refused to repent, believe in, and receive the promises of God (Ps 95:8; Heb 3:8,15; 4:7). It is the stubborn prideful unwillingness to open ourselves to the love of God (2 Chron 36:13; Eph 4:18)
1 Corinthians 5:7 For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
We can overcome the hardness of heart by His grace, mercy, forgiveness and love.
Get The Leaven Out!
Exodus 20:1-3 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.
Romans 6:14-19 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace…Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living…
Romans 6:14-19
Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace…Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living…
Our Freedom Comes By Putting God First!
Romans 6:20-23 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
