Jesus is God with us
Bible Text: Isaiah 7-9 | Preacher: Pastor Steve | Series: The Best Christmas Ever
Jesus is God WITH us
Isaiah 7:13‑14 Then Isaiah said, Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
God is always with us as our protector and provider
Isaiah 7:13-15 Then Isaiah said, Listen well, you royal family of David! Isn’t it enough to exhaust human patience? Must you exhaust the patience of my God as well? All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means God is with us).
God dealt with Ahaz’s pride: His work and efforts would be destroyed and His alliance would fail!
Jesus is God FOR us
Isaiah 8:9‑17 Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered…Prepare for battle, and be shattered! Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us…The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread, and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare…I will put my trust in him.
Trust and Obey!
Jesus is ALWAYS on time
EXPECT Jesus to do the unexpected
Jesus is God WITH us and FOR us
Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this
Wonderful: supernatural, exceptional and Counselor: who is the one who gives us the best direction, guidance, advice and wisdom
Mighty God: God is our “Hero” as we face battles. Any enemy who attempt to oppose God’s people will know they face the most powerful force in the universe. God battles for us and with us
Everlasting Father: Jesus is not a distant, cold, unfeeling Creator but our Father-like Lord. Jesus knows by experience what we experience because Jesus became both man and God (Hebrews 4).
Prince of Peace: Our God is our “shalom” or “peace”. You can’t know or appreciate the Prince of Peace until you are in a storm and He rises up speaking to the storm of life and it is calmed.
God is WITH us
The ZEAL of the LORD of Hosts will perform THIS
What is THIS? It is Christmas that is so much more than a birthday celebration, tradition or remembrance. It is the time when we decide to let Jesus into our lives relationally and let His rulership take over in our lives.
The ZEAL of the Lord of Hosts will do THIS. He has all the resources necessary to accomplish this: refreshing, restoring and redeeming our lives, marriages and families!
Jesus is the only ONE who SAVES us
John 12:35‑36 Then Jesus told them, you are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light. When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
This Child is the Promised One Who
is God WITH us and God FOR us
Matthew 1:18-23 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, begin a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.
But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us)
