Hope: Power to Overcome

1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Biblical hope is the confident expectation of what God has promised and its strength is in His faithfulness.

Romans 8:24-25 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

Hope helps us overcome life’s most difficult moments and to thrive in its many challenges.
Hope is key to our existence, to our ability to persevere and to achieve goals. Indeed, research shows hope is key to our physical and mental well-being and that it can promote healthy lifestyle behaviors. – Dr. Joanne Buzaglo, Ph.D.
How does hope develop?  Biblical hope rests on God’s promises.  For our hope to grow and develop we must know Father God, His words and His character.  God is the author of our hope.

Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Overcoming: hopelessness, fear
Colossians 1:27-28 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Overcoming: discouragement, doubt, depression…

1 Thessalonians 5:8-9  But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.
Overcoming our past, our failures; breaking strongholds of past hurts, habits, and hang ups.
Colossians 1:21-23 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight —  23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard…

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Overcoming our failures
Titus 2:11-14  For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
