David: His Lord, His Love, His Life
Bible Text: 1 Samuel 16:1-13 | Preacher: Pastor Steve | Series: David: Committed Living
A nobody, nobody noticed
1 Samuel 16:1 Now the LORD said to Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.
We must constantly and consistently guard our hearts against deceitful influences particularly as we grow older
1 Samuel 16:2-5 Samuel arrives and the elders of the city came to meet him and they are scared. His purpose is to offer a sacrifice to the Lord
When God has chosen you; God has CHOSEN YOU!

1 Samuel 16:10-12 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, The Lord has not chosen these. And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all the young men here? Then he said, There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.
And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here. So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!
Philippians 1:6 And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again.

Spiritual strength comes, grows by our experiences of faithfulness to our everyday life and responsibilities
Luke 16:10-12 Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won’t be faithful in large ones. If you cheat even a little, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? And if you are not faithful with other people’s money, why should you be trusted with money of your own?
1 Samuel 16:12-13 So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him; for this is the one! Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
David is the ONE!
Do not overvalue size, looks. The Lord accomplished great things through small means
The Lord looks on the heart, not the outward appearance
Whom we have in our lives and not what we have in our lives is what counts!
Acts 13:22 But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.
We are to live as GOD-PLEASERS; NOT PEOPLE-PLEASERS
The public anointing was the result of what had been ALREADY going on IN PRIVATE between David and the Lord
The Lord looks on the heart; not the outward appearance!
What kind of a heart does the Lord want?
Psalm 23:1-6 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want; He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters; He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake; Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me; You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over; Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
…this is our hope…Mercy (chesed) the unfailing, steadfast covenant love of God.
This is our hope and affirmation for our eternity…
Luke 22:14-20 …He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, this is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me. After supper he took another cup of wine and said, this cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.
I need to understand that Jesus Christ died on the cross for me
I need to repent of my sin
I need to believe in Him and receive Him
John 11:25-26 Jesus said: I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?
Being a Christian involves a relationship with Jesus and with others
I need to ask Him to forgive me of my sins
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I need to commit to Jesus publicly
Romans 10:9 …that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
I need to trust Him
John 14:1-6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
I need to do it now, invite Him to come into my life
Today is the day of salvation!
