Bible Text: Ephesians 4:26-27 | Pastor: Pastor Steve | Series: Ephesians: Engaging the Power of God’s Amazing Grace

Anger is a Natural Human Emotion
Ephesians 4:26-27 Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.

We must not allow anger to capture our souls
Anger Tells Us Something Is Wrong
Repressed anger is a warning sign

Anger is often about being hurt

Anger can become a part of our personality
Typically, we use one of the following seven methods in expressing and handling our anger:

Stuff it
Delay it
Displace it
Minimize it
Numb it
Avoid it
Express it (appropriately)

Anger Can Be Understood By Picturing A Volcano
Three basic types of volcanos:

Active: currently erupting or is just about to erupt
Dormant: not currently erupting but has erupted in the past
Extinct: has not erupted in recent history; unlikely to erupt again

We Can Learn To Deal With And Express Our Anger Appropriately
Romans 12:17-21 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord. Therefore  If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.  Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.
We are responsible for how we respond to and use our anger constructively
Built into our brain (amygdala) is an autonomic reaction

FIGHT FLIGHT FREEZE
Anger is not bad in and of itself, when handled properly it can even be beneficial
Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry
Anger Presents Us With An Opportunity To Do Right Or Wrong
And do not give the devil a foothold

The anger related destruction of the human life and spirit is an incredible national disaster. It’s a human tragedy in the lives of millions even more terrible than what volcanos have done!

Proverbs 14:17 An angry person does foolish things.

Proverbs 29:22 A hot tempered man commits many sins.
