Give Thanks!

Pastor:
Passage: Psalm 118
Service Type:

Bible Text: Psalm 118 | Preacher: Pastor Steve | Series: The Psalms of Summer
The Lord (Jesus) is ALWAYS Faithful
Psalm 118:1-4 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let Israel now say, His mercy endures forever. Let the house of Aaron now say, His mercy endures forever. Let those who fear the Lord now say, His mercy endures forever.
Chesed (mercy) is a dramatic word that focuses what is behind the dynamics of the giving of thanks.
The Mercy (chesed) of God is an Active Mercy
Every time chesed is used it is joined to the verb “to do” or “to make,” because it is an action. Please understand that God’s mercy toward us is active mercy. It is not simply a thought or concept. He actively acts, motivated by mercy.
2 Timothy 2:13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful…
Our future hangs, not on the strength of our faith, but on the strength of God’s Faithfulness!
Psalm 118:5-9 …It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.
Trust in the Lord means that we have confidence in Him
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.
Trust in the Lord means that we give Him our future
Matthew 6:34 So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Trust in the Lord means that we give Him our past
1 Corinthians 10:11 All these events happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us, who live at the time when this age is drawing to a close.
Psalm 118 from Captivity to Freedom
HIS MERCY (chesed) NEVER ENDS!
70 years before…
Lamentations 3:22-24 Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, Therefore I hope in Him!
70 years later…
Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
God’s Mercy (chesed) is a Miracle
Psalm 118:22 The stone the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it’s marvelous in our sight.
The LORD Directs Our Steps
Psalm 37:23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD…Psalm 40:2-3…and established my steps…
Psalm 118:10-14 …But the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.
Strength:
1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith.
Song:
Revelation 15:3 …and the song of the Lamb, saying: Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty!
Salvation:
2 Corinthians 12:10 …I am quite content with my weaknesses and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
God has Promised to Give Us Wisdom
Psalm 118:15-21 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly. The right hand of the Lord is exalted; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly. I shall not die, but live…This is the gate of the Lord, through which the righteous shall enter. I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation.
James 1:5-8 If you need wisdom — if you want to know what God wants you to do — ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer…
Psalm 118:22-28 The stone, which the builders rejected, has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it…You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You.
Acts 4:10-12 This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. Nor is there salvation in any other…
The Chief Cornerstone keeps God’s people from sliding into hell!
Psalm 118:29 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
What would happen if we viewed each day as the day that the Lord had made?
God loves us faithfully and always;
God is good, always;
God does what is just, right and fair, every time.
