DAY 21 - WE ARE NEW CREATIONS
In Jesus, we are forgiven and made completely new!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
2 CORINTHIANS 5: 17-19
OUR DEVOTIONAL
We are made new because of Jesus and by walking with Jesus. When we receive Him into our hearts, we are reborn as a new person because He died for our sins and rose from the grave! We are given a new mind, heart and purpose. Before Jesus, we were lost, and now found, blind and can now see, dead and are now alive! When we receive Jesus, we receive a new identity, and get to spend the rest of our earthly lives working with the Holy Spirit to transform our minds. As if that isn’t awesome enough, we then get to spend the afterlife with God and Jesus forever, not mention we get new bodies!!!
The moment we accept Jesus into our hearts and ask Him to forgive us for our sins, we are given a brand-new clean slate! This doesn’t mean we’re perfect and will never sin again, but it does mean that when we sin, we don’t have to stay stuck in it. Romans 6:18 tells us that we are no longer under the control of our sinful nature, but now reborn in Jesus, and therefore have the freedom to live in righteousness. Who we are in Jesus becomes our new identity.
In Jesus, we are more than God’s creation; we are also His children! We are now children of the Most High God, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, the Creator of everything! Because of who He is, we are royalty, and we now live to serve God with a new purpose, a new heart, and a new identity. We even have a new wardrobe that we’re instructed to wear called the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11-17).
FAMILY MOMENT
For your family devotion time, ask God to show each of you exactly what you look like now as a new creation in Christ. Then break out the colored pencils and markers and draw the picture that God gives each of you. Then share your amazing art work with each other! When I’ve done this exercise over the years, God has given me different things to draw at different times of my life, such as a little girl being held in her father’s arms, a butterfly, a jewel, and even a warrior princess like Wonder Woman.
PRAYER & REFLECTION
- Reflect on what’s changed and new in you since you’ve walked with Jesus.
- Ask God to show you areas in your life that need further changing, because the process of renewing our minds is a lifelong transformation.
- Ask God to give you all you need to change, and for the courage to step out in the newness of life He has for you!
We did it! This is the final devotion of our 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting for Breakthrough and Breakout. What has the Lord done in your life, family, community, etc.? Where do you see yourself being made new through the discipline of fasting? Please consider sharing your experience with your ALFC family. You can simply reply to any of the daily emails you received.
